Horror fans are eating well this weekend! Double digits, TEN genre movies to pick from for your theatrical choose-your-own-adventure experience this weekend. Joining the party is the much-anticipated Scream VI. We have been salivating over this one for damn near an entire year, and we are happy to say it is a lot of fun. Ghostface slashes into the Big Apple, and it results in some delicious set pieces. Adam Driver vs. dinosaurs is also getting into the mix with 65. He who walks behind the rows continues to walk across theater screens this weekend in Children of the Corn, and you can still get your Cocaine Bear fix. Take a look at what's awaiting you in theaters this weekend.
1. Scream VI
The Carpenter sisters are back along with the Meeks twins. Our four Woodsboro survivors from last year are trying to survive in the big city, which can be hard enough. One tiny problem, Ghostface joins the gang to add a little extra something to their college experience. Radio Silence gives us their second stab at the franchise.
2. 65
Adam Driver. Dinosaurs. Do you need more than that? Ok fine, here's the synopsis just in case: "After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he's actually stranded on Earth -- 65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at a rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa, must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures."
3. Children of the Corn
This prequel-esque take on Stephen King's short story imagines what might have happened before the events of the story we are all so familiar with. "Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a 12-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. Soon, a bright high school student who won't go along with the plan becomes the town's only hope for survival." Check out our interview with the director and stars.
4. Cocaine Bear
Time to watch a bear eat a whole bunch of cocaine and go on an absolute rampage. Following the real-life story of a massive amount of cocaine being dropped by drug smugglers in the woods and a bear consuming that aforementioned cocaine... and then taking a whole lot of liberty and artistic freedom from there for some good old-fashioned historical fiction. This one fills in the blanks with some very gory and fun "what-ifs" as the titular bear embarks on a drug-fueled rampage, encountering an eccentric gathering of cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers assembled in a Georgia forest. 5. Consecration
A new entry in the religious horror sub-genre from Triangle and Black Death director Christopher Smith, starring Jenna Malone, follows a young woman as she unravels a potentially supernatural mystery. "After the suspicious death of her brother, a priest, Grace (Malone) goes to the Mount Saviour Convent in Scotland to find out what really happened. Once there, she uncovers murder, sacrilege, and a disturbing truth about her own past.” Also starring Danny Huston (American Horror Story: Coven), Janet Suzman (Labyrinth), Thoren Ferguson (Matriach) and Will Keen (The Crown). 6. The Outwaters
The latest found-footage sensation from writer-director Robbie Banfitch is playing in select cities, if you want it to stay in theaters and expand to more cities, let them know with those ticket sales! This one generated a steady buzz during its successful festival run (winning Jury Prize for Best Feature at the Unnamed Footage Festival and Best Feature at The Dead of the Night Film Festival), offering "a visceral dive into insanity as the events of four musicians and filmmakers' trip into the Mojave Desert unfold through three memory cards found in the wild. The group's at-first uneventful adventure to go film a music video slowly turns into an unnatural, mind-bending nightmare full of horrors no human was ever meant to see." 7. Knock At The Cabin
M. Night Shyamalan's adaptation of Paul Tremblay's novel The Cabin at the End of the World stars Dave Bautista (Army of the Dead), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter series) and Nikki Amuka-Bird (Old). Ben Aldridge (Fleabag) and Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter) play Andrew and Eric, a couple who, along with their daughter Wen (Kristen Cui) are taken hostage by the four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. 8. Infinity Pool
After premiering at Sundance, Brandon Cronenberg's latest is enjoying a theatrical run. Starring Mia Goth (Pearl), Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman) and Cleopatra Coleman (The Shadow of the Moon) Infinity Pool follows James and Em who are enjoying an all-inclusive beach vacation when a fatal accident exposes the resort's perverse subculture of hedonistic tourism, reckless violence, and surreal horrors.
9. Skinamarink
Kyle Edward Ball's Skinamarink continues to blow box office predictions following a successful festival run. Two children wake up in the middle of the night to find their father is missing, and all the windows and doors in their home have vanished. To cope with the strange situation, the two bring pillows & blankets to the living room and settle into a quiet slumber party. They play well worn videotapes of cartoons to fill the silence of the house and distract from the frightening and inexplicable situation. All the while in the hopes that eventually some grown-ups will come to rescue them. However, after a while it becomes clear that something is watching over them. 10. M3GAN
After hitting theater screens to kick off 2023, our January cover queen continues to slay. M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll that's programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally.
