IMAGINARY (2024)

There aren't a ton of new horror movies pouring into theaters this weekend, but Blumhouse is joining the party with its second theatrical release this year, Imaginary. Robert Morgan's gorgeously grotesque Stopmotion is still available in select theaters this weekend, joining Lisa Frankenstein for a horror triple-feature at your local cineplex. There is a feast of new horror movies coming out this year, and so far we are off to a strong start.

Here are all the new horror movies awaiting you in theaters this weekend.

1. Imaginary

Imaginary Chauncey

Chauncey heads into theaters this weekend in Blumhouse's latest endeavor. When Jessica moves back to her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement.

Alice's games with Chauncey become increasingly sinister, and Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.

Imaginary stars DeWanda Wise (who's also onboard as a producer), Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, Veronica Falcon, and Betty Buckley. Check out our interviews with the Imaginary cast and director Jeff Wadlow. And if you're in the mood for some teatime treats, we have an Imaginary-inspired chocolate cookie recipe for you to sink your teeth into.

2. Stopmotion

Directed by Robert Morgan (who co-wrote the screenplay with Robin King), Stopmotion revolves around a stop-motion animator by the name of Ella whose latest project might just be driving her to the brink of madness.

We caught this one at Fantastic Fest and it is gorgeous and grotesque, and we can't wait for you all to see it!

Stopmotion is in theaters February 23 and VOD March 15.

3. Lisa Frankenstein

Lisa Frankenstein Cole Kathryn

Lisa Frankenstein blends and bends genres. Ultimately, it’s a unique mashup of dark comedy, rom-com, and horror. Despite the vibrant neon, the subject matter goes rather dark, and it’s all done in such a way that it results in some genuine laugh-out-loud moments of disbelief.

This is Heathers for goths who grew up reading Poe and Shelley. With that Heathers DNA pumping through its veins, Diablo Cody's writing is as bitingly hilarious as ever, and Kathryn Newton brings it all to life.

Cole Sprouse comes full circle from "Fwankenstein" to a Frankenstein-esque creature complete with clever costume nods, and the whole thing is a neon-soaked party. And perhaps the best part? It all gets incredibly darker than expected, in the most glorious way. I sincerely hope folks go all out with Barbie-esque watch parties, complete with extravagant outfits.

Lisa Frankenstein is now playing in theaters. Dig up some friends and check your local showtimes right here. For more, check out our interview with Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse and take an exclusive behind-the-scenes look with costume designer Meagan McLaughlin.
