Chucky, Queer for Fear, Nope and more have today received nominations for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards that highlight and celebrate “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.”
Don Mancini's Chucky received the nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, marking more good news for the series after the recent reveal that the show had secured renewal for a third season. Chucky has gained huge amounts of praise for its queer representation, in particular for the romance between Jake (Zackary Arthur) and Devon (Björgvin Arnarso) and the portrayal of genderfluid twins Glen and Glenda (Lachlan Watson).
Shudder's Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror, the four part documentary series from Bryan Fuller received the nom for Outstanding Documentary. The series examined the history of queer people in the horror genre, as well as exploring the role of the LGBTQ+ community in front of and behind the camera. Stars on the show included Alaska Thunderfuck, Mark Gatiss and Tommy Pico.
Other horror nominations on GLAAD's list include Nope, Bodies Bodies Bodies and Scream for Outstanding Film - Wide Release, FX's What We Do in the Shadows for Outstanding Comedy Series and American Horror Story: NYC for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Of the amazing selection across all genres, GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis remarked that;
This year we have more nominees than ever before to represent immensely impactful projects that entertain, educate, and grow acceptance of LGBTQ people. From new stories that debunk lies about transgender youth to kids and family programming which allows all families to be represented, this year’s nominated media images are beloved by audiences and are creating real change.
