Friends 'till the end!

It seems you just can’t keep a Good Guys doll down for good. To that end, it has been confirmed via a press release that Chucky season 2 has kicked off production as of today, which puts the show back on track to return later this year. Optimistically, just in time for the Halloween season. Fingers crossed on that front. In any case, the returning cast members for the sophomore season of the horror series set within the Child’s Play franchise have been confirmed as well. Most importantly, Brad Dourif will once again return as the voice of the titular killer doll, as he’s done dating back to the original horror classic.

The rest of the cast will be a mix of relatively new and very familiar faces. Zackary Arthur (Jake Wheeler), Björgvin Arnarson (Devon Evans), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Lexy Cross), Alex Vincent (Andy Barclay), Christine Elise (Kyle) and Barbara Alyn Woods (Mayor Michelle Cross) are all set to return as well. This is in addition to Jennifer Tilly, who was previously confirmed to be reprising her role as Tiffany Valentine. Apologies to Devon Sawa, who was killed not once but twice during the first season.

Taking place within the same continuity as the original films, the show comes from the mind of franchise creator Don Mancini, who serves as executive producer alongside Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner, and Jeff Renfroe. The first season performed quite well, airing on both Syfy and USA Network, bringing in 11.6 million viewers in total. The finale aired on November 30, and quick work was made of handing the show a renewal.

Child’s Play hit theaters in 1988, coming towards the end of the slasher boom that occurred during the decade. What makes this series unique, however, is the fact that it has managed to maintain its continuity for more than 30 years now, with this show connecting to all of the sequels that have come before. Yes, we did get a remake in 2019 with a robot version of the killer doll voice by Mark Hamill, but that did not derail Mancini’s iteration, amazingly enough. Meanwhile, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw, and others have all been rebooted in that same timeframe. In some cases, multiple times. Chucky stands alone.

Plot details for the upcoming season remain tightly under wraps. The first season took place in New Jersey, with chaos gripping a small town after a seemingly harmless doll turned up at a yard sale and ended up in the hands of a teenage boy.

Chucky season 2 does not yet have a release date but is expected to arrive later this year. For those who need to do some catching up, the first season is currently streaming in its entirety on Peacock.
