Earlier this morning, FrightFest announced its 2023 lineup and, as you can imagine, it was jam-packed with excellent titles: Joe Lynch's Suitable Flesh, Jenn Wexler's The Sacrifice Game, anniversary screenings for James Wan's The Conjuring and William Friedkin's The Exorcist, and - in a reveal that we're particularly excited about here at FANGORIA - the world premiere of Joe Stephenson's Doctor Jekyll, the Eddie Izzard-starring reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic gothic horror tale.

To celebrate Doctor Jekyll's imminent arrival, the folks behind Stephenson's film have released a brand-new poster, designed by the increasingly-busy Creepy Duck Design. Take a look!

DOCTOR JEKYLL

Details concerning Doctor Jekyll's plot have largely been kept under wraps, but here's how Variety described Stephenson's film upon its announcement:

"In the film, a modern interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic 1886 novella 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde,' Eddie Izzard plays Dr. Nina Jekyll, a recluse who finds friendship with her newly hired help, Rob, played by emerging actor Scott Chambers (Chicken) and they must work together to prevent Hyde from destroying her life."

Back in May, FANGORIA released the first still from Stephenson's film, at which point he told us:

“There’ve been over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, but there has never been a trans Dr. Jekyll. There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the original work.”

Obviously, we're very curious to see how Doctor Jekyll plays out, and eagerly anticipate its post-FrightFest release (fingers crossed this one makes it to Fantastic Fest this year!). Stay tuned for more on Doctor Jekyll as further updates become available!
