Just as we're all chomping at the bit for Evil Dead Rise later this month, THR have revealed today that director Lee Cronin is reuniting with New Line Cinema to direct the original horror feature Thaw.

Cronin rewrote the script from Jeremy Passmore (San Andreas), whose project had previously sold to Gunpowder & Sky, the media company that produced 50 States of Fright.

The Hollywood Reporter gives us a run down of Thaw's synopsis here:

Set years after the polar ice caps have melted and the sea levels have risen, the story centers on a group of survivors at sea searching for a new home. Their prayers are answered with the discovery of an inhabitable town until, that is, they encounter a new nightmare living just below the water’s surface.

Cronin has been one to watch since his critically acclaimed 2019 debut The Hole in the Ground, which impressed Evil Dead franchise creators/Rise producers Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert enough to get the Irish director 'handpicked' to write and direct Evil Dead Rise. Hype for the latest bloody instalment in the iconic franchise is through the roof as those rave reviews just keep pouring in (currently enjoying a VERY fresh 96% over at RT). Needless to say, it's clear that New Line (and just about everyone else) is excited to work on more horror goodness with Cronin, and we can't wait to see what he delivers with Thaw.

Stay tuned for updates on Thaw as and when we get them - and don't forget about our exclusive look at Evil Dead Rise with Mr Cronin himself in the upcoming issue of FANGORIA.
