The first full trailer for Justin Simien's Haunted Mansion has arrived, and y'know what? It looks just a smidge more intense than we expected. People narrowly avoiding death, the Hatbox Ghost running rampant (and looking extremely creepy in the process), LaKeith Stanfield getting axes thrown at his head ... this movie's definitely a family horror comedy, but from the looks of things, it may end up minting a few new horror kids when it hits theaters in July.
Let's take a look!
See what we mean? Everything's in its right place in terms of Haunted Mansion seemingly like a big, fun, spooky movie - its' all just a little darker and bit scarier than we were expecting! This is not a complaint!
As its name and studio would imply, Justin Simien's Haunted Mansion is based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name. It's also not the first Haunted Mansion movie! The setup this time around? "A woman and her son enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters." Seems that LaKeith Stanfield will be playing the lead "spiritual expert" here (Danny DeVito appears to be another one), while Jamie Lee Curtis (as Madame Leota) and Jared Leto (the Hatbox Ghost) are heading up the "supernatural squatters" division.
Also in the cast: Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon and Dan Levy. It's a stacked cast, and Simien (Dear White People) is certainly no slouch. We're feeling very optimistic about this one, and look forward to finding out if this one's as intense as it seems when it hits theaters on July 28th.
