Tomorrow, Netflix will drop the official trailer for Bird Box Barcelona, the highly-anticipated sequel to the streamer's 2018 mega-hit, Bird Box. As its name might imply, Bird Box Barcelona will relocate the post-apocalyptic action from the United States to Spain, with an all new cast of characters and, hopefully, plenty more freaky monster action.
To prepare us for that trailer's arrival, Netflix dropped a new poster for Bird Box Barcelona this morning.
Let's take a look:
Written and director by brothers Alex and David Pastor, Bird Box Barcelona stars (deep breath) Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro with Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia (No, Sandra Bullock isn't back for this one; "all new cast of characters," remember?), and will tell the following tale:
“After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must navigate their own journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures grows.”
This all sounds very familiar to anyone who caught the original Bird Box (which must've been most of you; that film was the reigning champion of most-watched Netflix originals for quite some time!), and we're very curious to see how this one differentiates itself from what came before. Perhaps that bit about "a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures" has something to do with it? We'll likely know more after tomorrow's trailer.
Stay tuned for that, and be aware that - like it says on the poster above - Bird Box Barcelona will hit Netflix on July 14th. Stay tuned for more on this one between now and its arrival.
