We've got some good news for fans of the Saw franchise today: Saw X, the tenth film in Lionsgate's grisly, long-running franchise, has been moved forward from its original release date of October 27th to September 29th. Yes, that's right - Jigsaw will be back to raise Hell with a whole new batch of victims a full month earlier than expected!

The news comes to us from Deadline, who go on to describe the plot of Kevin Greutert's sequel:

"In the Twisted Pictures next installment John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is back, and it’s the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s final games. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps."

So, what's the reason for the release date switcheroo? According to Deadline, Lionsgate is "excited about the next sequel and its testing," which means they must be feeling pretty confident about Saw X's chances at the box office. And why shouldn't they? Horror's been making a killing in theaters this year (recent example: Insidious: The Red Door quickly racking up over $115M worldwide on the back of its $16M production budget), and this is a franchise that's earned over $1B at the worldwide box office. Why not start collecting that cash sooner?

With Saw X moving to the end of September, we imagine that we'll be hearing plenty more about this one in the very near future. Stay tuned for further updates on Greutert's film as they become available, and ... y'know, stay safe out there. You never know where Jigsaw might turn up next.
