SILENT NIGHT (2021)

Silent Night was first described to me by Emily Bennett (Alone With You) as "Love Actually meets The Mist," which both intrigued and confused me. And then I watched the movie and realized she was spot on, in the best way possible. This black comedy manages to be dark without feeling bleak, the horror is ever-present like a silent predator stalking and always inching closer, but the comedy is some of the tightest and on-point in recent memory.

In this directorial debut, writer Camille Griffin takes a healthy dose of apocalyptic existential dread and turns it into horrific comedic gold. Silent Night stars an ensemble cast, featuring Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Roman Griffin Davis, Annabelle Wallis, Lily-Rose Depp, Ṣọpé Dìrísù, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Lucy Punch, Rufus Jones and Trudie Styler, among others. Check out the official synopsis and trailer below.

Silent Night follows parents Nell (Knightley) and Simon (Goode) who have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside.  As the group comes together, it feels like old times – but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right.  The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind’s imminent destruction go away.  Surviving the holidays just got a lot more complicated.

Silent Night will be in theaters and streaming exclusively on AMC+ on Friday, December 3.
