That's gotta be a subgenre, right?

Ugh.

Don't you just hate it when you move back into your spouse's childhood home only to stumble upon a weird painting of yourself in the attic? So do I, friends, which is why this new trailer for Justin P. Lang's The Visitor has shaken me to my very core.

Take a look:

All kidding aside, this strikes me as an intriguing concept for a horror flick! Reading between the lines of the trailer, I suspect that I might be able to guess where this is going, but really: who cares? The Visitor looks well-shot and atmospheric as all hell, and lord knows I'm a sucker for "small town hiding a dark secret" horror. Oh, I cannot wait to find out what kinda weird shit these folks are keeping to themselves. Probably something untoward!

Here's an official plot synopsis, in case any of the above was unclear:

When Robert (Finn Jones) and his wife Maia move to her childhood home, he discovers an old portrait of his likeness in the attic – a man referred to only as ‘The Visitor’. Soon he finds himself descending down a frightening rabbit hole in an attempt to discover the true identity of his mysterious doppelgänger, only to realize that every family has its own terrifying secrets…

So, when can you see it? Just before Halloween, as it turns out! The Visitor hits digital and On Demand on October 7th, where it'll remain before heading over to EPIX in December.
