MOSQUITO STATE (2021)

Insect horror? Check. Body horror? Check. The colors are as lush as the deepest recesses of an untouched jungle, and the mosquito swarm buzzing about from within the belly of the apartment rev like a pack of menacing chainsaws. The swarm congregates on a sleeping Richard Boca and as he wakes up in his posh apartment, it is clear something is very wrong (if the maniacal screeching of the insects wasn't wrong enough for you.) This scene serves up a little taste of both insect and body horror, take a look at the synopsis and watch the clip below.

Isolated in his austere penthouse overlooking Central Park, obsessive Wall Street data analyst Richard Boca sees ominous patterns: His computer models are behaving erratically, as are the swarms of mosquitoes breeding in his apartment, an infestation that attends his psychological meltdown.

Directed by Filip Jan Rymsza. Co-written by Rymsza and Mario Zermeno. Starring Beau Knapp (The Good Lord Bird), Charlotte Vega (Wrong Turn), Jack Kesy (Claws) and Olivier Martinez (Texas Rising).

Mosquito State is now streaming exclusively on Shudder.
