Chrissy Metz stars in Damien LeVeck's new Christmas horror.

It’s not even Halloween yet and we already have our first look at a new Christmas horror - 2022 really is the year that keeps on giving.

Deadline reports that international and indie distributor Well GO USA has acquired worldwide rights to A Creature Was Stirring – a festive horror-thriller starring Chrissy Metz (This is Us), Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween), Connor Paolo (Camp Hell) and Annalise Basso (Oculus).

Taking the reigns as director on this Christmas carnage is Damien LeVeck, who gave us 2019’s livestream possession horror The Cleansing Hour. Natalie LeVeck is producing for Skubalon Entertainment (which was founded by the director himself), alongside Aaron B. Koontz (Scare Package) for Paper Street Pictures.

Deadline describes the plot as follows:

A Creature Was Stirring follows the overprotective mother and professional nurse Faith (Metz), who keeps her teenage daughter locked securely in her room and subjected to constant methadone injections, their only means of sustaining a delicately balanced fever state that keeps a mysterious and terrifying affliction at bay. However, when a pair of strangers breaks into the home while seeking shelter from the Christmas blizzard, they quickly discover that this mother-daughter relationship stretches the limits of both dysfunction and reality, and that the women are hiding a terrible secret — specifically, the presence of a malevolent houseguest who won’t be content to lurk in the shadows much longer.

(I’m going to take a guess and say that this ‘houseguest’ wants a little more than milk and cookies…)

LeVeck also reveals that “this film has it all: a spectacular practical monster, unexpected twists and turns, and the phenomenal talent of Chrissy Metz in a kind of performance no one has ever seen from her before.”

The design and creation of said mysterious monster comes from SFX artist, director and friend of FANGORIA, Tate Steinsiek (Castle Freak). If Steinsiek’s impressive resume is anything to go by, A Creature Was Stirring’s titular beast will be downright terrifying.

Thanks to Deadline, we can take a peek at a first-look still from the movie here:
