As anyone who's played it, and they're likely to tell you that Remedy's Alan Wake 2 ranks among the very best games of the year. Stylish, mind-bending and utterly terrifying, this long-awaited sequel has made quite the impression since its arrival last month ... and now it's set to compete in no less than eight categories at this year's Game Awards.

Alan Wake 2 scored nominations in the following categories:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Game Direction
  • Best Narrative
  • Best Art Direction
  • Best Score and Music
  • Best Audio Design
  • Best Performance (Melanie Liburd)
  • Best Action/Adventure

Remedy's latest faces stiff competition in this year's Game of the Year category, where Alan Wake 2 will go up against Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the Resident Evil 4 remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and the (more or less) universally beloved The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Alan Wake 2 arrived 13 years after the original Alan Wake, and puts players in two different roles: the titular author (who's now trapped in a nightmarish, alternate version of NYC) and FBI agent Saga Anderson (played by Melanie Liburd, who's up for a "Best Performance" award for her work in the game). Players can swap between the two characters at various points throughout the game, and finding out how these two stories connect and influence one another offers players one helluva mystery to get to the bottom of. The game is also, again, scary as hell.

It's been a great year for gaming, and Alan Wake 2 remains one of our absolute favorites here at FANGORIA. We'll be rooting for it when the 2023 Game Awards kicks off on December 7th. While we're waiting on that evening to roll around, head on over to the Game Awards website to check out all the categories and contenders (and, yes, to vote)!
