Ahead of its premiere at this year's SXSW Film & TV Festival, Bleecker Street have today released an official trailer for Sasquatch Sunset, the new feature from David and Nathan Zellner (Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter, 2023's excellent The Curse) and executive producer Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) - and it's just as bizarre and beautiful as you might expect.
Riley Keough (The Lodge, The House That Jack Built), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland) and Christophe Zajac-Denek (Twin Peaks: The Return) star as - you guessed it - a bunch of Sasquatches, and the full plot synopsis reads as follows:
“In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches—possibly the last of their enigmatic kind— embark on an absurdist, epic, hilarious, and ultimately poignant journey over the course of one year. These shaggy and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them.
Now, full disclaimer folks, there's no indication here that Sasquatch Sunset is a horror movie (in fact, it looks pretty damn chill) - but with a premise as delightfully batshit as this, plus a bunch of amazing FX, how could we not report on it? Bigfoot/Sasquatch movies might not ever be big money makers - here's hoping Sasquatch Sunset is the exception! - but they're usually good fun regardless.
Sasquatch Sunset hits select theaters on April 12, 2024, following with a nationwide release on April 19, 2024.
