It's a great time to be a Resident Evil fan, as just a day after the news that the terrifying Resident Evil 4 remake is headed to VR, Capcom have confirmed that more Resident Evil remakes are coming.

So far, Capcom have remade Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, all to great levels of success and positive fan reception. At a PlayStation partner awards event in Japan, attended and translated by IGN Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo had this to say about the future of the remake series:

“We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more. What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”

With a massive 29 games in the Resident Evil franchise (although only 15 are considered canon), it's anyone's guess which game Capcom will go for next. The obvious choice would perhaps be to move chronologically with a remake of 2009's Resident Evil 5, a game that remains somewhat controversial among fans due to its departure from the survival-horror genre and focus on action. IGN also note that many Resident Evil fans have long called for a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the Sega Dreamcast game from 2000. Or, they could go right back to where it all began, and remake the original Resident Evil from 1996.

With a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas and other merchandise existing in the franchise alongside the games, Resident Evil is officially the highest-grossing horror franchise - a status that will surely remain unmoved if the success of the existing remakes is anything to go by.

Whichever Resi ends up coming next, we'll have all the updates for you - stay tuned.
