It hasn't quite been 65 million years, but a couple of games from the past are coming to modern consoles (and PC) in the not-too-distant future. Thanks to the folks at Limited Run Games, both the original Jurassic Park video game and its sequel, Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues, will be available in a new, updated collection. While the games have yet to be given full HD upgrades, they will come with some welcome new bells and whistles, such as easier save points and other modern luxuries.

The games will be collected in a new release titled Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection. For those who aren't familiar with Limited Run Games, they do pretty impressive physical releases for classic games, with various editions available, depending on what level of collectible you want to add to the ol' physical media shelf. The company has also released a trailer for the collection. Check it out.

So yeah, some very old-school, ‘90s 8 and 16-bit action there for all to enjoy. The games are set to go up for pre-order on September 1 and will be available through October 15. No actual release date has been set as of now. As far as pricing and platforms go, there’s the Standard Edition (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Switch) for $29.99, the Classic Edition (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Switch) for $64.99 and the Prehistoric Edition (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Switch) for $174.99. There are also going to be some Retro Editions, which are described as follows:

Standard Editions (NES, Game Boy, SNES) – $49.99 to $64.99
  • Physical copy of either Jurassic Park or Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues on an amber retro cartridge
  • Replica of the original game manual
Collector’s Editions (NES, Game Boy, SNES) – $99.99
  • Physical copy of either Jurassic Park or Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues on an amber light-up retro cartridge
  • Numbered foil stamped slipcover
  • Replica of the original game manual
  • Double-sided poster inspired by the classic Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection

For those who may not be familiar, here is the synopsis for Jurassic Park:

“The perilous primeval world of Jurassic Park awaits! Step into the role of Dr. Alan Grant! A computer malfunction has caused the release of hundreds of fearsome prehistoric predators. Vicious raptors, spitters, and T-Rex are threatening to overrun even the fortified visitor's compound...and two children, Tim and Lex, are lost in the island's jungle wilderness! To find and rescue them, you'll have to face some of history's most powerful and DEADLY carnivores.”

And here’s the synopsis for Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues:

“A year has passed, and no one has set foot in Jurassic Park...until now! As Dr. Grant, you'll venture back to the island, where more dinosaurs than you could ever imagine await your return. If you thought the first visit was a nightmare, wait until you meet the new attractions!”

There is, admittedly, much to consider for those interested in picking up a copy but for my money, it’s nice that there’s a reasonable base price of $34.99. Sure, you can spend a lot more money for a fancier edition, but regular fans aren’t being priced out.
