It's relatively early in the year, but it feels pretty safe to say that director Elizabeth Banks' Cocaine Bear will go down as one of the most insane mainstream genre movies of the year. Those interested in bringing that blood-soaked, drug-fueled chaos home, we have some good news on that front as Universal has announced release dates for the film on both Peacock and Blu-ray/DVD for lovers of physical media out there.

Cocaine Bear will first debut on Peacock April 14, which will first serve as its exclusive streaming home. The movie will then arrive on Blu-ray on April 18. So regardless of how you prefer to consume your media these days, the home video release date is just around the corner. It is nice that Universal is still giving this one a physical release, as studios have recently been moving away from that. Barbarian and The Empty Man are not available on disc at all, for example, which is a real shame.

Circling back to the movie at hand, Banks' latest directorial effort has been a success, holding its own against stiff competition at the box office en route to an $83 million haul to date. Given its reported $30 million budget, this will absolutely go down as a win for the studio. That's good news for original horror in general, especially since the studio also scored big with M3GAN earlier this year. Here is the synopsis for Cocaine Bear:

“Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow… and blood.”

The film’s stacked ensemble cast includes stars Keri Russell (The Americans), O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Christian Convery-Jennings (Sweet Tooth), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (BlacKkKlansman), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Hannah Hoekstra (Charlie’s Angels), Aaron Holliday (Sharp Objects),Margo Martindale (Fargo) and Ray Liotta (Goodfellas). Jimmy Warden (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) penned the screenplay.

For those who are still interested, Cocaine Bear is still playing in theaters.
