Devon Sawa is doing a lot to cement himself as a horror icon well over twenty years after starring in Final Destination. To that end, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the actor has lined up his latest project in the form of Consumed, a new horror flick from The Butcher Brothers, aka filmmaking duo Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores. Rather tantalizingly, it sounds like they will let Sawa off the chain for this one, as he is going to play, and I quote, a “wild madman.” Also, a skin-stealing monster is involved. Need we say more?

The movie hails from the folks at XYZ Films. Sawa will co-star alongside Courtney Halverson (Unfriended) and Mark Famiglietti (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines). They will play a married couple named Jay and Beth who are “taking a celebratory camping trip a year after Beth’s cancer remission, who find themselves trapped between a wild madman (Sawa) and a skin stealing monster.” If I may? Hell yes.

David Calbert (The Wolves) wrote the script. Altieri is going to be in the director’s chair, with Flores producing. The duo’s previous credits include The Violent Kind and The Night Watchmen. Jeffrey Allard, of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning fame, is also on board as a producer. Altieri had this to say about it:

“When I first read the script for Consumed, I was excited about the challenges it presented. Its characters not only have to face a terrifying creature stalking the woods, but individually, they are also forced to struggle with their inner demons brought on by true-to-life tribulations such as cancer or grieving loss. I set out to visually adapt a film that balanced these situations we may all face at one time or another, coupled with the exhilaration and sheer horror of being lost deep in the wilderness as something unknown tracks your every move.”

Sawa has done some lowkey outstanding work in the genre space as of late. Not only did he star in the first two seasons of Chucky on Syfy, but he also appeared in the Christmas horror flick Black Friday alongside Bruce Campbell. The actor also starred in the tragically underseen Hunter Hunter, which arrived in 2020 amid the pandemic and sort of got swept under the rug. So, if you’re looking to kill some time before seeing Sawa go full madman, give that a watch.

Consumed does not currently have a release date.
