Ewan McGregor has been added to a project that gets more intriguing every single day. The Doctor Sleep and Star Wars actor has been cast in It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s new, untitled movie that has been in development for some time. While it doesn’t have a title, we do know that Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway (The Witches, Eileen) is also due to star in the film as well. Oh, and one more little detail; it’s going to involve dinosaurs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor has signed on to star in the film which “is described as being a family adventure set in the 1980s that involves dinosaurs.” So, not only is it bringing prehistoric beasts to the screen, but it will presumably draped in ‘80s nostalgia. McGregor and Hathaway will star as the parents, with the kids still due to be cast. There is no word yet on how soon production will begin.

The movie is set up at Warner Bros. with J.J. Abrams producing via his Bad Robot production company. Hannah Minghella and Matt Jackson are also on board as producers, with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender serving as executive producers, with Sheila Walcott and Zach Hamby overseeing the project for Warner Bros.

Mitchell hasn’t made a film since 2018’s Under the Silver Lake, but he now finds himself a busy man. Not only does he have this in development, but he’s also directing a sequel to It Follows titled They Follow, which is due to film sometime this year. In all likelihood, this dinosaur movie will have to wait until he wraps up production on that sequel as that seems like it’s on the fast track. But after not making a movie in nearly six years, it’s looking more and more like he’s going to make two big ones back-to-back.

While plot details remain scarce, this does serve as a boost to dino-centric cinema. For years, it’s pretty much been Jurassic Park or bust as far as studio-produced dinosaur movies go. To that end, a new Jurassic World installment is currently in the works. But that tide has been turning, with Adam Driver starring in 65 last year. It looks like Mitchell is also trying to do his part with the help of a couple of A-list stars.

David Robert Mitchell’s untitled dinosaur movie does not currently have a release date but stay tuned as we'll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more.
