Nigerian-born, Toronto-based musical artist Debby Friday is taking us back to high school for a little field-side tarot reading and good old-fashioned partying. The only problem is an ominous masked stalker seems to keep showing up. This guys really takes "be there with bells on!" quite literally. Friday created the short film Good Luck: The Film as a companion piece to her new album of the same name.

This surrealist short film tells the story of a young woman navigating the whirlwind that is adolescence through dreamlike sequences of young love, house parties, and the obligatory midnight woodland rituals. All of these elements come together in this pseudo-autobiographical tale co-directed by Debby Friday and Nathan De Paz Habib (The Bicycle, Eroica). Here's what Friday had to say about creating the short film:

"I wrote the film at the same time that I was writing the album and it's very obvious how they both shape and inform the other. It's a beautiful and very human story that I think anyone in the world can connect with because it deals with universal human themes - love, loss, fear, friendship, growing, shedding, becoming."

Let's dive into Friday's surrealist nightmare!

Good Luck is now available from Subpop records, and you can follow along with Friday on Instagram and official website.
