FEAR STREET (2021).

We've anxiously been awaiting details on Leigh Janiak's Fear Street Netflix trilogy – and now we've got 'em. First up, and this is bonkers but excellent news: the trilogy will be rated R, which is pretty surprising considering the source material! The first film (Fear Street Part One: 1994) hits the streamer on Friday, July 2. A week later, on July 9, we get Part Two: 1978. And the trilogy wraps up on Friday, July 16 with Part Three: 1666. Let's dive STRAIGHT into the origins of the Shadyside witch, y'all!

Fun, stylish, spooky, energetic – everything I was hoping for the R.L. Stine adaptation by Honeymoon's Janiak. Stine was foundational for so many of us who learned to love horror as '90s teens and tweens. Netflix and Janiak appear to be giving it their all to treat this property with respect, and that rules. Here's the official synopsis:

In 1994, a group of teenagers discovers that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets. Based on R.L. Stine’s best selling horror series, the trilogy follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history.

And some press release scoop from Janiak and Stine himself:

"We filmed all three Fear Street movies over one crazy, bloody summer. It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way - back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of Fear Street in 1994, 1978 and 1666!"

- Leigh Janiak, Director of the Fear Street trilogy

"Fear Street fans are in for a treat - and some major surprises. Readers know that the book series is rated PG. But the movies are rated R. That means a lot more thrills - and a lot more terror! I have seen Leigh Janiak's epic trilogy releasing on Netflix in July and I can tell you the scares and the SCREAMS are more than I ever expected. What fun to see the horrors of Shadyside come to life!"

- R.L. Stine, Author of the best-selling horror series Fear Street
