With Álvarez at the helm, you know this one's gonna be gnarly.

As production continues apace on Fede Álvarez's as-yet-untitled Alien film, 20th Century Studios has given said film a release date: August 16th, 2024.

Starring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu, Álvarez's Alien is being billed as "an original standalone feature" rather than a continuation of the tale that began with Prometheus and continued with Alien: Covenant. Yes, this Alien will take the franchise back to basics, with one new wrinkle: this time around, the Xenomorph will be going up against a group of young people at the ass-end of space, rather than well-armed space marines or reckless scientists.

Álvarez, who co-wrote the film with Evil Dead's Rodo Sayagues, is an excellent choice for this particular project, and I can tell you that the off-the-record scuttlebutt on this one is strong. All signs point to Álvarez going HAM on this entry of the Alien franchise; believe me when I say that some of the things I've been told about the production will make Xeno superfans very happy, indeed.

But all that will have to wait for another day! For now, make sure your schedule's clear on August 16th of next year. You've got a date with a Xenomorph.
