Josh Hutcherson, star of last year's massively successful Five Nights at Freddy's is currently making the press rounds in support of his latest film, The Beekeeper, and you know what that means: someone asked him what's going on with the Five Nights at Freddy's sequel.

Speaking to Variety about the still-unannounced film, Hutcherson says:

“I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal.
We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”

This is about where we assumed things were at! Tammi's film made roughly $295M worldwide (and counting) on the back of a $20M production budget, which is the sort of gigantic payout that all but guarantees a sequel will be fast-tracked into production. Blumhouse hasn't quite gotten around to announcing Five Nights at Freddy's 2, but it'll happen, and in the meantime it sounds as though they're just trying to crack the story.

The first Five Nights at Freddy's, you'll recall, starred Hutcherson as a security guard unraveling a deadly mystery while working the night shift at a long-defunct pizza parlor ... which just so happens to be the home of a number of killer animatronics (think: the Rock-afire Explosion, with more murder). It's anyone's guess as to what direction Blumhouse and company might take the sequel in, but we're certainly curious to see what they come up with.

Nothing further to report on Five Nights at Freddy's at this time, but stay tuned for further updates as they roll in. We're guessing an official announcement won't be too much further down the line.
