After six seasons worth of blood-sucking laughs, What We Do in the Shadows is coming to an end. It has been revealed that the popular FX series based on the movie of the same name is indeed coming to a close. Vulture was the first to report the news. Whether you wanted the show to live on forever or if you understand that all good things must eventually come to an end, the forthcoming season 6 will serve as the show’s last.

What We Do in the Shadows season 5 was down in the ratings, at least on FX, but it also has a sizable chunk of the audience that watches on Hulu. FX has not, as of this writing, released an official statement on the matter, nor has creator Jemaine Clement or any of the executive producers, such as Taika Waititi. Whatever the case, six seasons is a pretty long run for a live-action comedy/horror series, particularly in the streaming era.

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (2019)

The Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes may have delayed plans to get the final season in production. Be that as it may, it is still believed that the sixth (now final) season will premiere sometime in 2024. The fifth season wrapped up its run back in August. For those who may need a refresher, the synopsis for the most recent season reads as follows:

“In season five, Nandor feels his familiar (and sometimes friend) Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo, whose skills as a gentleman scientist are put to the test as he tries to solve the mystery of the strange and very secret changes Guillermo is going through. Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family — or at least, a family — from the Old Country, Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the relative newcomer to this tightly-knit group who’ve known each other for centuries.”

The cast includes Kayvan Novak (Nandor), Matt Berry (Laszlo), Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Mark Proksch (Colin Robinson), Harvey Guillén (Guillermo) and Kristen Schaal (The Guide). The series premiered in 2019 and has aired 50 episodes to date. It is based on the 2014 film, which was directed by Waititi and Clement. The series has been met with a great deal of critical acclaim, garnering 21 Emmy nominations over the years,

What We Do in the Shadows is currently streaming on Hulu.
