Smoking Causes Coughing, Quentin Dupieux's "absurdist comedy sci-fi fantasy", is hitting cinemas across the UK and Ireland on July 7 thanks to Picturehouse Entertainment.

Since its UK premiere earlier this year at FrightFest Glasgow, the bizarre French tokusatsu film (Known as Fumer Fait Tousser in its native French) has been a hit with genre fans - with the legendary John Waters calling it “one of the best movies of the year" and "a superhero movie for idiots" (which we know, coming from the Pope of Trash, is absolutely a compliment)

Not sold yet? Wait 'til you read this plot synopsis:

After a devastating battle against a diabolical turtle, a team of five avengers – known as the TOBACCO FORCE - is sent on a mandatory retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their break goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth… But will they repair their relationship in time for a final epic battle?

Starring Gilles Lellouche, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Lacoste, Jean-Pascal Zadi and Oulaya Amamra as the Power Rangers-esque heroes, Smoking Causes Coughing also features some super gnarly special effects from artist Olivier Afonso (As Above So Below, Raw).

If you're in the UK or Ireland, grab your tickets here for what is sure to be one of the more bonkers films of this year!
