All eyes have been on the heated bidding war between studios A24 and Miramax for the rights to a Halloween television series - and today, Deadline have exclusively reported that Miramax has signed a wide-ranging deal with Trancas International Films to develop and co-produce an episodic new entry into the beloved franchise.

Miramax’s Head of Global TV Marc Helwig will be overseeing the franchise creatively in close collaboration with producer and CEO of Trancas Malek Akkad, who has worked on Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later, Halloween: Resurrection, Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009).

According to Deadline, "The new Halloween series is envisioned to potentially launch a cinematic universe spanning film and television. Miramax’s Head of Global TV Marc Helwig will be overseeing the franchise creatively in close collaboration with Akkad" as well as reminding that "Jointly controlling both the film and TV rights would allow Miramax and Trancas to map out an integrated film-TV universe."

In a statement, Akkad expressed his excitement for the upcoming project, which will mark the first time that Halloween has hit the small screen:

“Trancas International Films is extremely enthused to be expanding our long-standing relationship with Miramax, and we look forward to working with Marc Helwig and the entire team in creating this new chapter.”

Despite its title, many fans never really believed that last year's Halloween Ends from David Gordon Green would not signal the end of the Michael Myers story. Now, with the good news that a series expanding on the world of Haddonfield is en route, it's time to start speculating what we want to see from a more episodic structure. Needless to say, we'll have all the updates on the Halloween series for you, as and when we get them!
