If you need an alternative to doom scrolling while killing time on your mobile device, boy do we have just the thing for you. An officially licensed Halloween game has just dropped for both Apple and Android devices that will be of particular interest to those who enjoy match-style puzzle games and also happen to be horror fans. If that describes you, downloading Halloween: A Match Made In Terror might be the right move.

Described as a “match 3” game, the mobile game sees players being stalked by Michael Myers. The only way to escape? Keep those matches coming. This is also set firmly in the world of John Carpenter’s original 1978 horror classic, as opposed to the more recent sequels, with Dr. Loomis and other characters along for the ride. An official description of the game reads as follows:

“Having escaped and on the loose from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, you and the rest of the residents of Haddonfield must act to survive Halloween night by solving ever increasingly difficult puzzles using the iconography of this classic film. Along the way you will collect special abilities and repair the damage this night has wrought upon this idyllic town. Make those matches as quickly as possible to ensure you stay one step ahead of The Boogeyman, because as Dr. Loomis said, ‘if you don’t, it’s your funeral.’”

With each successful encounter, players will move up the leaderboard ranks – the higher you rank, the safer you will be. Those at the top will also earn additional rewards to help in their journey. At present, the leader atop the board has 699 points. So, if you’re looking to be the best of the best, that’s where you’ll need to aim.

What’s kind of remarkable is just how few Halloween video games we’ve had over the years. Yes, there was 1983’s Halloween game for the Atari but, with all due respect, that won’t necessarily hold up to modern scrutiny. In an era when we’ve had Friday the 13th: The Game, Evil Dead: The Game and, more recently, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, it feels like a Michael Myers survival horror game of some kind would be a wise move. But that’s up to the powers that be. In the meantime, we’ve got the new Halloween TV show to look forward to.

Halloween: A Match Made in Terror is available through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store now.
