We’re exactly a month away from Disney’s Haunted Mansion arriving in theaters. To commemorate the occasion, the studio has released a series of character posters (as well as a couple of format-exclusive posters), along with a brand new TV spot for the film. Like Pirates of the Caribbean before it, Disney hopes to turn the beloved theme park attraction into a big movie franchise, this time for the horror crowd. Whether or not that pans out remains to be seen, but this TV spot gives us an idea of what to expect. Check it out.
This very much seems in line with what we’ve seen in previous trailers. It appears to be fun, family-friendly, PG13 horror with an A-list cast. It certainly seems like an upgrade from the Eddie Murphy movie from twenty years ago, with all due respect. It certainly doesn’t hurt having talented individuals such as Rosario Dawson leading the way. Meanwhile, we’ve also got a 4DX and Dolby poster for you to check out, so take a look.
Also of note, tickets for the film are on sale now. So those who are interested in seeing Hatbox Ghost on the big screen on opening weekend, you can secure your seats as we speak. Justin Simien (Dear White People) is in the director’s chair for the film. The brief and simple synopsis reads as follows:
“Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, Haunted Mansion is about a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.”
The absolutely stacked ensemble also includes LaKeith Stanfield (Knives Out), Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip), Owen Wilson (Loki), Danny DeVito (Mars Attacks!), Chase W. Dillon (The Harder They Fall), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Jared Leto (Morbius). One thing that is a bit curious is the fact that Disney is releasing this movie in the dead of summer when there is a great deal of blockbuster competition. This feels like a much better fit during the Halloween season in late September/early October. For whatever reason, the powers that be feel this one is better off facing off against the likes of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer - which is apparently kind of a horror movie - and Barbie. We’ll see if that strategy pans out.
