History of Evil lands on Shudder this week, and we have your sneak peek! Set in the not-so-distant future, where war and corruption have plagued America and turned it into a theocratic police state. A part of The Resistance, political activist Alegre Dyer (Jackie Cruz), breaks out of prison and reunites with her husband Ron (Paul Wesley) and daughter to escape the country. The trio takes refuge in an abandoned house, and as secrets of the house’s dark past begin to come to light, Ron must fight to maintain control to protect his family and not be overcome by the forces of hate threatening to destroy everything they've been fighting for.
Written and directed by Bo Mirhosseni, inspired by his parent's personal experiences during the Iranian revolution. Both of Mirhosseni's parents were activists during the 1970s and continue to advocate for human rights today. Bo wanted audiences to understand the fear that minorities face in the United States with the constant shifting of extremism. The film examines the theme of feeling uneasiness and danger in one's home country against the backdrop and the idea that history often repeats itself.
We have an exclusive clip from History of Evil to share with you today, but first, Mirhosseni sets the scene for us. "The scene serves to unleash the evil that lurks within the house and reveal some history from the house. When we were shooting this scene, every time the wardrobe department pulled out that hood, people got super anxious on set. There's something incredibly disturbing and unsettling. I didn't think a prop hood would do that to me or others, but it did."
