Nearly a decade in the making, Image Comics' acclaimed miniseries Wytches is finally getting an adaptation. Amazon is set to turn Scott Snyder and Jock's comic into an animated series for Prime Video, with the creative duo personally involved in the adaptation. According to Variety, Snyder and Jock are on board as executive producers alongside Plan B Entertainment, Kevin Kolde of Project 51 Productions and Amazon Studios.

The comic was initially published between 2014 and 2015, consisting of six issues. Plan B quickly jumped on the rights, initially optioning the book with plans to turn it into a movie back in October 2014. Over the course of what we can presume was some form of development hell, those plans were abandoned, and a TV series was settled on instead. But Snyder will still see his work on the big screen, as Night of the Ghoul is in development as a film at 20th Century Studios. As for the story at hand? It centers on "17-year-old Sailor Rooks, whose family moves to a remote New England town after a tragic accident, only to discover that a burrow of monsters—ancient creatures that prey on our darkest fears and desires—lurks beneath the town." Snyder had this to say in a statement:

"Wytches is possibly my most personal work. It's all about the monsters that dwell beneath the surface of things, both literally and figuratively. I've been intimately involved with this animated series from the start, and I can honestly say that I love this show as much as the book, if not more. The animation brings the incredible art by Jock to life, and the episodic format expands the world of Wytches, taking the characters and mythology to terrifying new places. Jock and I are deeply grateful to Plan B Entertainment, Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios for believing in Wytches and giving us a chance to make this show dark, personal, twisted, and very special."

Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon Studios, had this to add:

"Driven by the pairing of Scott and Jock along with our partners at Plan B and Project 51 Productions, Wytches fuses nail-biting horror and evocative drama while unearthing the dark lore surrounding an ancient burrow of witches. Given the haunting and intimate nature of Scott and Jock's well regarded comic series, we are looking forward to delivering their creative vision to our global audience and expanding our growing roster of animated series."

In a thread over on Twitter, Snyder discussed the series a bit further, revealing that he and Jock are, in fact, deeply involved in the creative process directly. Snyder wrote the pilot for the show Jock is serving as the art director. "Amazon put together a great mini room, which I even got to run," Sndyer explained. He also added that "the show's animation draws right from jock's work and the story expands the world of the book, while staying 100% true to its core. It's brutal, personal, and heartfelt and Jock and I are really excited about it." While it's certainly early, this all does sound promising.

Wytches does not yet have a release date set.
