In our restless dreams, we see that town...Silent Hill... And today, we're closer than ever to returning, as star Jeremy Irvine (The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) has shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the set where filming has begun on Return to Silent Hill.
Director Christophe Gans returns to the Silent Hill film franchise after his 2006 game adaptation, and we now know that the new feature will be an adaption of Konami's seminal 2001 psychological horror game Silent Hill 2 (which we highly suggest playing if you haven't already).
"The film will follow James (Irvine), a man broken after being separated from his one true love (Jigsaw's Hannah Emily Anderson). When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love."
Irvine's photo, shared on his Instagram account yesterday, doesn't reveal too much, but it's the most Silent Hill movie action we've had since M. J. Bassett's 2012 Silent Hill: Revelation. With the photo's location set to 'Silent Hill', Irvine is seen sat next to co-star Anderson, also letting us know that the pair are currently 17 days into shooting:
Return to Silent Hill was announced late last year, with Gans and producer Victor Hadida sharing storyboards, details and confirming the news everyone was waiting for: Pyramid Head will be making a triumphant return. Gans has also confirmed that the film will feature 'a few nods to P.T.', referencing the ill-fated but utterly terrifying playable teaser for Hideo Kojima's sadly cancelled Silent Hills.
Return to Silent Hill does not yet have a confirmed release date, and if Irvine's caption is anything to go by, we might have a little longer to wait for further news. Stay tuned for more as we know it!
