If, perchance, you are sick and tired of vampires, zombies, and/or masked slashers and have found yourself wondering why we don't get nearly as many werewolf movies (minus Larry Fessenden's forthcoming Blackout, of course), today brings good news: according to a new report at Deadline, Platinum Dunes is putting together a new film by the name of Wolf Night, with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning director Jonathan Liebesman onboard to helm the project.
Written by Will Honely and April Maguire, Wolf Night is being described as "District 9 by way of The Purge - but with werewolves," which is one hell of an elevator pitch. Further plot details are currently under wraps, but it's easy to imagine what that pitch might look like in practice.
Beyond the screenwriters, Liebesman, and that brief description, there's not much else to report on Wolf Night at this time. Deadline says Platinum Dunes has multiple studios vying for the project (Universal's gotta be in the mix, right?), and once one of them strikes a deal we'll likely be hearing more. Here's hoping that happens soon, because we're very curious to learn more about a movie that's essentially "District 9 + werewolves + The Purge."
Stay tuned for further updates on Wolf Night as they roll in, folks.
