We’re mere weeks away from the big screen kaiju action promised by the latest entry in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Directed once again by Adam Wingard, the sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong will see the two monsters teaming up to fight an even bigger threat, as the title of the new film implies. Today brings with it a new IMAX poster for the film which makes a pretty strong argument as to why you should see it on the biggest screen possible. Namely, you’ll get to watch King Kong punch a pyramid with an augmented metal arm. Check it out.

So yeah, it’s just a poster but one that leaves says an awful lot. This isn’t exactly the Godzilla as thinking man’s cinema that we got last year with director Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus One. This is just some good old-fashioned monster-brawling blockbuster goodness. This franchise contains various flavors, all of which can be good when executed correctly. While the jury is still out on the film in its entirety, getting to see King Kong punch the top off of a pyramid is certainly something we haven’t seen before. Not to mention the pink Godzilla of it all.

Elsewhere in MonsterVerse news, the folks at Cinemark have unveiled some merch they’re going to have available in theaters for fans to pick up when the movie hits theaters. The list includes several different popcorn tins, monster plushies and some collector’s cups. The cups shapes like the various monsters in the movie don’t seem entirely practical, but they might look pretty good on the ol’ collectible shelf.

The new film features a human cast that includes the likes of Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong), Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong), Alex Ferns (The Batman) and Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Terry Rossio (Godzilla vs. Kong), Simon Barrett (You’re Next) and Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) penned the screenplay. The official synopsis reads as follows:

“This latest entry in the MonsterVerse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hits theaters on March 29.
