According to a new report over at Deadline, Kumail Nanjiani (the next Ghostbusters) and Mandy Moore (Dr. Death) have officially signed on to headline Thread: An Insidious Tale for writer/director Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight, The Exorcist). This spin-off is not to be confused with Patrick Wilson's Insidious: The Red Door, which lands in July.

No, this is an all-new tale set within the Insidious universe:

"While Thread is the sixth installment in the Insidious horror franchise, examining everyday people caught up with demonic entities, it’s an offshoot project, rather than a continuation of the current series. The story here is that of a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe."

Writer/director Slater's been on a real run lately, co-writing the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the next Mortal Kombat. This project will serve as his directorial debut, and we're very excited to see what he has in store for us. We're also excited to see Nanjiani (a legit horror fan, it's worth mentioning) taking on a horror project. Sure, there'll be ghosts and ghouls and what have you in the next Ghostbusters, but we're guessing Thread: An Insidious Tale will go a bit harder than that one.

There's no word on when Thread: An Insidious Tale will begin filming, but we're banking on "sooner rather than later." Stay tuned for further updates on this one as they roll in, folks!
