IFC Films has released a brief teaser trailer for the upcoming supernatural horror flick Late Night With the Devil. Starring David Dastmalchian (Last Voyage of the Demeter), it feels like this one has been a long time coming - mostly because it has. The movie premiered at last year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas to rave reviews. Now, a full year later, it’s finally headed to theaters next month before arriving on Shudder in April. The studio has now offered up a brief taste of what to expect. Check it out.

The teaser is played straight as though we’re watching a new report for something sinister that occurred on an old late-night talk show. It appears things start to go very wrong in the “little girl gets possessed” sort of way. One imagines a full-length trailer will be arriving online sooner rather than later, but it’s clear the marketing is going to lean into the found footage gimmick. Not shaky-cam found footage, but more like you’re watching some forbidden piece of media that’s been locked away in a studio vault for decades.

Cameron and Colin Cairnes (100 Bloody Acres, Scare Campaign) wrote and directed the film. It centers on a charismatic talk show host named Jack Delroy (Dastmalchian) whose live broadcast unexpectedly unleashes evil into the nation’s living rooms. The movie has been met with universal praise thus far boasting an unblemished 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s pretty rare air and, while that is certain to change as more critics see the film, it’s one heck of a start. Emily Gotto, Shudder’s VP of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, previously had this to say about the film:

Late Night With The Devil is an exhilarating demonstration of how the horror genre continues to present new and exciting storytelling. We’re delighted to partner with Cameron and Colin, Image Nation, and Spooky Pictures on the release of the film as we continue to work with some of the industry’s most talented filmmakers. Following its massive success during its run at SXSW, BFI London Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival and many more, we have no doubt that audiences will be enthralled by the film’s supernatural thrills and David’s electrifying performance.”

IFC and Shudder partnered to pick up the rights to the film late last year. Dastmalchian, in addition to his starring role, serves as an executive producer alongside Joel Anderson and Rami Yasin. Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, Mat Govoni, Adam White and John Molloy also serve as producers.

Late Night With the Devil hits theaters on March 22 before premiering on Shudder on April 19.
