Netflix's Leave The World Behind is one of the year's most buzzed-about thrillers, and how could it not be? Its cast (which includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke) is stacked, it's based on a best-selling novel that ended up on a slew of year-end best-of lists, and it's both written and directed by Sam Esmail, creator of the mega-popular Mr. Robot. That it's also telling a terrifying story about the end of the world is just the cherry on top for us here at FANGORIA.

Today brings us the film's first full trailer. Take a look:

Yup, this is looking pretty damn sharp. While it might not appear that there's any supernatural at play here, the cyberattacks that kick off Leave the World Behind's doomsday scenario look like they'll lead to plenty of intense sequences.

Here's an official plot synopsis, in case any of the above was unclear:

"In this apocalyptic thriller from award-winning writer and director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), Amanda (Academy Award winner Julia Roberts) and her husband Clay (Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke), rent a luxurious home for the weekend with their kids, Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). Their vacation is soon upended when two strangers — G.H. (Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) — arrive in the night, bearing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families reckon with a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world."

Netflix will drop Leave the World Behind into select theaters on November 22nd (take your whole family on Thanksgiving!) before the film hits streaming on December 8th. We're very much looking forward to checking out Esmail's vision for the apocalypse, and will keep you abreast of any further updates on this one as they roll in. Stay tuned, folks!
