Final Cut - Still 1

Final Cut, Michel Hazanavicius' remake of Shin’ichirô Ueda’s hilarious zombie comedy One Cut of the Dead, gets a new trailer today from Kino Lorber, ahead of the film's July 14 theatrical release.

If you're a fan of the 2017 Japanese original, then you'll be pleased to know that the plot of Final Cut seems to veer very little from the lovable cult hit. If you haven't seen it, avoid too much Googling as this one's really worth going in blind for. Here's the (spoiler-free, obviously) synopsis from the official press release...

Oscar winner Michel Hazanavicius' remake of Shin’ichirô Ueda’s cult hit One Cut of the Dead follows a director (Romain Duris, L’Auberge Espagnole) charged with making a live, single-take, low-budget zombie flick in which the cast and crew, one by one, actually turn into zombies. Featuring hysterically unhinged performances from Oscar nominee Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Matilda Lutz (Revenge), and Finnegan Oldfield (Corsage), Final Cut is a sly love letter to the art of filmmaking and a blood-soaked, hilarious genre farce with a meta-to-the-max premise.

From the looks of the trailer, Final Cut has nailed the homemade, lovable tone of the original, while bringing a whole new French flavor to the table. We even get to see the hilarious Yoshiko Takehara (aka Donguri) return to her role as the giddy producer Sasahara.

Since premiering at Cannes last year, Final Cut has received positive reviews, being called "a salute to cinema so goofy and goodhearted that it is hard to resist" and "a hilarious meta-commentary on the struggles of making a remake."

As mentioned, if you're in the U.S., you can catch Final Cut in select theaters on July 14!
