MINDCAGE (2022)

Mauro Borrelli's upcoming thriller, Mindcage follows detectives Jake Doyle (Martin Lawrence) and Mary Kelly (Melissa Roxburgh) as they seek the help of an incarcerated serial killer referred to as "The Artist" (John Malkovich) when a copycat killer strikes. While Mary attempts to uncover clues in The Artist’s twisted psyche, she and Jake are lured into a diabolical game, racing against time to stay one step ahead of The Artist and his copycat.

When you're emulating a serial killer dubbed "The Artist", you'd better deliver. If these weren't the corpses of brutally murdered victims, they'd be gorgeous art pieces hanging in the mansions of one-percenters. Or I guess even as corpse art, there may still be a market, but that's a different horror movie. In the exclusive clip below, you can take a look at Martin Lawrence and Melissa Roxburgh in action, along with some of the aforementioned "art" on display.

In an interview with director Mauro Borrelli, he explained this scene was originally supposed to take place in an alley, and the body was to be discovered on a telephone pole. Due to the logistics of building a pole in the location and hoisting the fallen angel up said pole, he opted for the train instead. Resulting in a happy accident if you ask us. Without that logistical tweak, we wouldn't get the juxtaposition of the corpse's golden wings, marble-like skin, and burnt orange gown popping against the black steel of the train, or the Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament vibes. Borrelli also has a background in fine arts, which lends itself to this world of morbid beauty.

You also get an extended look at Martin Lawrence in a purely dramatic role. Keep an eye out for our exclusive Mindcage interview with director Mauro Borrelli coming soon. Catch Mindcage in select theaters and on VOD December 16.
