Eli Roth seems ready to revisit the titles that made him a name in genre filmmaking. The filmmaker has teased that new installments in both the Hostel and Cabin Fever franchises could be on the way, and he even has ideas on how that could happen - even if he’s not prepared to share them with the class just yet.

Currently, Roth is making the rounds to promote his latest slasher Thanksgiving, which happens to be getting a sequel. So that will probably keep him busy through 2025. But after that? It seems like some of his earliest directorial efforts could be revisited. Speaking recently with CinePOP, Roth had the following to say about it:

"Hostel, there's a lot more to do. I'd love to go back to Hostel at some point. And Cabin Fever as well. They're a part of me. They're like my children. I feel like I've ignored them for too long. And I'd love to go back to them in some way. I have ideas.”

Cabin Fever Patient Zero

Cabin Fever served as Roth’s feature directorial debut and was released back in 2002. It inspired a sequel, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and a prequel, Cabin Fever: Patience Zero, as well as a remake in 2016. As for Hostel, the first film was released in 2005 with Hostel: Part II arriving in 2007. A direct-to-video sequel, Hostel: Part III, arrived in 2011. That’s the last we’ve heard of that series. It appears as though Roth feels there is more juice left to squeeze from both franchises. Most interestingly? Roth would step into the director’s chair should either franchise come back from the dead.

“I would direct it. I don't want it in anyone else's hands."

Would Roth reboot either franchise? Would he do some sort of legacy sequel with original cast members returning? For now, we have nothing but questions and precious few answers. In the meantime, Thanksgiving 2 is currently set to release in 2025 and, all the while, Roth still has his Borderlands movie to finish. The movie finished filming some time ago and is expected to arrive sometime next year. So, at best, if Roth truly wants to be in the director’s chair for these projects, we would need to wait until 2026.
