Just when you thought it was safe to look back under the bed after last month's terrifying trailer, Rob Savage's The Boogeyman gets four new creepy posters today from 20th Century Studios - ones that remind us to keep those lights on and limbs under the covers.

The Stephen King adaptation stars Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina (Birds of Prey) Fango fave David Dastmalchian (DuneThe Suicide Squad), Marin Ireland (The Dark and the Wicked, The Umbrella Academy), Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird BoxMr. Corman) and Madison Hu (Voyagers). The official plot synopsis reads as follows.

"High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister, Sawyer, are still reeling from the recent death of their mother. They're not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who's dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims."

The adapted script for the film was written by A Quiet Place's Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Malignant mastermind Akela Cooper and Black Swan's Mark Heyman. 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine & Dan Cohen are producing.

The Boogeyman recently saw some walkouts at CinemaCon, and while it's always important to take these kind of early reactions with a hefty pinch of salt, 20th Century Studios' decision to release the film theatrically as opposed to an original streaming debut definitely bodes well for the freak factor. Just look at Evil Dead Rise, which was also thankfully granted a theatrical release instead of a streaming debut as originally planned, and has now racked up a VERY cool $88 million.

In his third feature, Savage looks set to continue his streak of scaring the crap out of audiences after his 2020 Zoom-based horror Host and 2021's batshit Dashcam. Here's watch the director had to say about delighting audiences in terror:

The Boogeyman is a classic horror movie in the mold of Poltergeist that has scares and heart in equal measure. I vividly remember the terror I felt reading King’s short story as a kid, and it’s this feeling of childhood fear that I wanted to inspire in cinema audiences around the world.

The Boogeyman hits theaters on June 2, 2023, so just over a month today! Plenty of time to start getting hyped (as if you weren't already), which these posters should definitely help with:
