In the midst of an interview with Variety (and as pointed out by the good folks at Bloody Disgusting) promoting his new film, Butcher's Block, Renfield star Nicolas Cage has pulled back the curtain on the voice he'll be using as Dracula in that Chris McKay film. You will probably not be surprised to learn that said voice is exactly as weird as we were hoping it'd be.

Like so:

Cage's description of Dracula's voice as "kind of an amalgamation of a sort mid-Atlantic August Coppola accent combined with Sir Christopher Lee, with some Anne Bancroft thrown in for good measure" sounds bonkers on the surface, but once he puts it all together there ... yup, that's exactly what that voice is.

Renfield, which opens next year, is said to be a darkly comic piece of work, which would certainly contextualize Cage's Drac voice as well as the paparazzi photos that were taken of him on set (we can't post 'em, but you can definitely head over to People to check 'em out, if you have not yet had the pleasure).

Cage is joined in the film by Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina, and Ben Schwartz, while McKay's directing from a script written by Rick and Morty scribe Ryan Ridley. We're excited to catch this one when it hits theaters on April 14th, 2023. Until then, stay tuned for further Renfield updates as they roll in.
