Here's a classic "good news/bad news" scenario for you: Focus Features has revealed the official release date for Robert Eggers' highly-anticipated remake of vampire classic Nosferatu ... but it's probably a bit further down the road than you were hoping for.

According to the press release we just received, Nosferatu will land in theaters on December 25th of next year. Yup, just over a year away from now. Sure, it'll probably enjoy a festival run closer to the date (appearances at Beyond Fest and/or Fantastic Fest seem likely), but if so, the non-festival going crowd will have a bit longer to wait. Whatcanyado?

Get excited, that's what. Eggers has been trying to get a Nosferatu remake off the ground for some years now (at one point, it almost came together before the filmmaker moved on to The Northman), and it's hard to imagine another working director who'd deliver a more authentic-feeling take on the material. If there's one thing Eggers knows, it's how to make the past seem absolutely terrifying.

As previously reported, Nosferatu stars Bill SkarsgÄrd (as the blood-sucking Count Orlok), Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe. Focus Features describes Eggers' remake as "a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake."

Nothing further to report on Eggers' Nosferatu at this time, but rest assured that we'll keep you informed with further updates between now and the film's December 25th arrival in theaters. Stay tuned.
