A new R.L. Stine movie is coming to theaters very soon. Zombie Town, which we first learned about last year, will adapt Stine's 2012 novel of the same name and has set a September 1 theatrical release, which is mere weeks away. That being the case, we have a trailer for the friendly-for-younger-audiences zombie flick, which reunites comedy legends Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. That's kind of a big deal! Yet, somehow, this movie is flying under the radar a bit. Anyhow, check out the trailer.

Needless to say, this looks like a relatively low-budget affair, despite the star power. Aside from Aykroyd and Chase, Ready or Not and Scream VI star Henry Czerny is part of the cast as well. Some of the special effects look a little low rent, but there’s some unique stuff going on here. Specifically, we have a zombie driving a car rather proficiently. That’s not something we see every day. As for the specifics of the story, the synopsis for the movie reads as follows:

“Amy (Madi Monroe) and Mike (Marlon Kazadi) uncover a centuries-old secret when they decide to watch an exclusive film reel. Before they know it, their town has been turned to the undead before their eyes. The duo must track down an infamous filmmaker (Dan Akroyd) and navigate a town of hungry zombies to break the curse before it’s too late.”

This is not a major studio production, but the product of a collaboration between Trimuse Entertainment, Toonz Media Group, Lookout Entertainment and Viva Pictures. Originally, Stine said the movie was supposed to come out last December. But a fall release date timed around the Halloween season feels like a better fit, especially if this movie ends up on VOD by Halloween, which seems likely.

Peter Lepeniotis (Nut Job) is in the director’s chair for the film. John Gillespie, Trimuse Entertainment Founder and Executive Producer, had this to say about the movie when it was initially announced:

"We are delighted to bring the pages of R.L. Stine's Zombie Town to the screen and equally thrilled to be working with such an exceptional cast and crew on this production. A three-time Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award winner with over 400 million books sold, R.L. Stine has a phenomenal track record of crafting stories that engage and entertain audiences."

Zombie Town is set to hit theaters on September 1.
