Just when we thought we couldn't possibly be any more excited for Robert Eggers' Willem-Dafoe-Bill-Skarsgård-starring Nosferatu - Deadline have revealed today that Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Bullet Train) has joined the already stacked cast.

Taylor-Johnson joins the aforementioned two horror icons in the remake of the classic vampire story, as well as Ralph Ineson, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult and Emma Corrin. Although not yet confirmed, Wikipedia notes Taylor-Johnson will play a character named 'Friedrich Harding', who could well be a reimagining of a character from F. W. Murnau's 1922 original expressionist classic.

Excitingly, Deadline have also revealed that production on Eggers' Nosferatu is currently underway in Prague.

If you've been following the Nosferatu news as obsessively as we have, you'll most likely be very aware of the plot synopsis, but here it is anyway for good measure:

In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.

Eggers' shot to horror stardom in 2015 with his folk horror debut The Witch, following up with the fart-filled isolation horror The Lighthouse. His most recent film, the epic Viking saga The Northman was released in 2022 to critical acclaim. The auteur director has been in talks for the Nosferatu remake since 2015, so it's hugely exciting to see the wheels finally in motion, with each casting announcement bringing us closer to the finished feature.

So now we've got a great cast, promising plot, and suitably spooky production details; the next thing we need is a release date, right? Watch this space for updates as we get them.
