The cast for Scream 6 (which remains without an official title) continues to grow! Per Deadline, it has been revealed that none other than Henry Czerny of Mission: Impossible and The Exorcism of Emily Rose fame is the latest to board the upcoming sequel. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, details regarding Czerny's role in the film remain largely under wraps right now, but secrecy is a big part of the game when dealing with franchise films. Especially when the killer's identity is always a mystery, as is the case with Scream.
This casting makes for a reunion of sorts as Czerny previously starred in 2019's horror hit Ready or Not, which Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett also directed. The duo also directed this year's Scream revival, which proved to be a major hit at the box office, paving the way for yet another sequel. And, this time around, they decided to bring Czerny along for the ride. The actor has been busy as of late with a bit of a high-profile revival, as he's also returning in next year's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning.
Meanwhile, the surviving members of this year's entanglement with Ghostface, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega, will all be returning in a film that will see them "leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter." As we recently discovered, that new chapter will be in New York City, bringing Ghostface to Manhattan for the first time. Hayden Panettiere's fan-favorite Kirby from Scream 4 also returns to the fold alongside franchise mainstay Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Sadly, Neve Campbell is not coming back as Sidney Prescott.
New cast members getting in on the bloody goodness alongside Czerny this time include Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra. The filmmaking team from behind the scenes of the previous installment will also be back, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick penning the screenplay and franchise co-creator Kevin Williamson producing. Williamson wrote the screenplay for the original '90s horror classic, which was directed by the late, great Wes Craven. All four of the original films were directed by Craven, who passed away in 2015.
While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Jurassic World Dominion have horror elements to them, Scream remains the highest-grossing straight-up horror film of 2022, having earned an impressive $140 million earlier this year. The franchise, overall, sits comfortably at $742 million across five entries, making it one of the most successful horror franchises in history.
Scream 6 is set to hit theaters on March 31, 2023.
