Do you like haunted things? Are you a fan of free trips to California? Then we have just the thing for you! In celebration of this week marking halfway to Halloween, the folks at Spirit Halloween have announced a new contest where one lucky horror lover will get a VIP tour of The Winchester Mystery House, aka one of the most famed creepy destinations in the world. All it takes to enter is a little bit of your time and access to Instagram.

Per the rules, all one needs to do is like the above post, follow Spirit Halloween on Instagram, and tag a friend. So long as you’re also at least 18 years old, that’s about it! The winner will receive an all-inclusive trip for two, including a flight, three days in San Jose CA, a private VIP tour of Winchester House, and a catered dining experience in one of Sarah Winchester’s restored dining rooms. Perhaps coolest of all, there will be an after-dark seance and mansion walk-through accompanied by a professional medium. Steven Silverstein, CEO of Spirit Halloween, had this to say:

“It’s shaping up to be a big year for us and we wanted to get the party started earlier than ever in a way only Spirit Halloween can. Our loyal fans truly embrace the Halloween lifestyle year-round, so the halfway mark felt like the perfect time to give everyone a taste of what’s to come throughout our 40th anniversary season.”

For those who may not be super familiar, Sarah Winchester owned the house in question and did some pretty peculiar things with it. The property was pretty much constantly under construction from 1986 to 1922, spans 24,000 square feet, has six kitchens for some reason, and would cost a whopping $71 million in today’s dollars. It even inspired a 2018 movie, simply titled Winchester, that starred the great Helen Mirren. The house’s official website explains:

“The Winchester Mystery House is an architectural wonder and historic landmark in San Jose, CA that was once the personal residence of Sarah Lockwood Pardee Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester and heiress to a large portion of the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune. Tragedy befell Sarah – her infant daughter died of a childhood illness and a few years later her husband was taken from her by tuberculosis.”

And so, Sarah purchased the eight-bedroom house thus beginning the home’s very odd journey to becoming the mysterious wonder it is today. To enter the contenst, head on over to the Spirit Halloween Instagram page and follow the instructions. Good luck!
