Here's an interesting story you might have missed over the weekend: according to Deadline, Steven Spielberg has stepped up to produce a new thriller, based on as yet-to-be-published short story, for Universal. That short story comes to use from a writer by the name of Colin Bannon, and is drawing comparisons to films like Rosemary's Baby and What Lies Beneath.

Says Deadline:

The 50-page short story was written by Colin Bannon, who will write the script. His deal is in the low 7-figures range for the story and to write the script, said sources. Pic will be produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Partners, Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon for Genre Pictures and Scott Glassgold and his Ground Control Entertainment.
"In the vein of What Lies Beneath and Rosemary’s Baby, Long Lost tells the story of a recently married woman whose life is upended when her husband’s long-lost wife shockingly returns after she was believed to be dead, sparking fears that she’s hatching a sinister plan to reclaim what was once hers."

As Deadline's report points out, Bannon's no slouch in the writing department: a whopping seven of his scripts have earned placement on the annual Black List, and also sold screenplays to Tri-Star Pictures (Ultra) and Netflix (First Ascent). It's not his only currently-gestating Netflix project, either: Bannon's Holdout is also gearing up for production at the streamer, with no less than Elisbeth Moss attached to star and direct. Whatever he's cooked up for Long Lost must be pretty special for Spielberg to come knocking.

Nothing further to report on Long Lost at this time, but we'll be keeping a close eye on this one as it works its way through production. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, folks!
