Horror gaming has come a long way over the years (just consider the massive gulf between, say, 1988's Splatterhouse and this year's Alan Wake 2), and, according to a new report from the good folks at Bloody Digusting, a new five-part documentary series from the creators of In Search of Darkness will do its damnedest to cover it all.

Called Terrorbytes: The Evolution of Horror Gaming, the series comes to us from CreatorVC, who are currently looking for fan input on their latest project via the show's official website. That's right: you can head on over to that link to read the project's synopsis and take a survey that will help CreatorVC shape Terrorbytes on its way through production!

According to their website, Terrorbytes will offer the following:

Exclusive Insights: Tap into the minds behind the scares! Through never-before-seen interviews with some of the incredible teams and individuals behind horror gaming's most important titles, TerrorBytes will take you on your very own private tour through the incredible world of horror gaming history guided by the very people who created it.
Behind the scenes: Ever wondered what goes into crafting interactive terror? How do developers, composers, voice actors, artists and writers create these unique worlds, stories and experiences? TerrorBytes lifts the curtain on the secrets, techniques and fine details that go into the creation of gaming's most atmospheric titles.
A Journey Through Time: Witness this saga of screams right from its inception, journeying back to the origins of horror in video games and following the genre's development into the modern era, all the while exploring the games and their cultural impact, the intricacies of their design and the psychology of their scares.

In addition to this, CreatorVC has also released a trailer offering up a look at a bazillion horror games that might end up included in their final product, titles you (like me) may have very fond memories of playing over the years. Take a look:

With Terrorbytes: The Evolution of Horror Gaming still being developed, it's likely to be a little while before we'll actually be sitting on our couch watching it, but rest assured that we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in about its production and release. Stay tuned for those, folks!
