Fango faves The Boulet Brothers are soon to return with a fifth season of the iconic The Boulet Brothers' Dragula, and today Shudder have released the first official trailer that promises gore, guts and glamour.
The ten-episode new season will premiere on Halloween (duh!) Tuesday, October 31, on Shudder and AMC+, with new episodes airing weekly on Tuesdays. Season 5 features a wild cast of 11 all-new drag artists from all over the USA and around the world, including monsters from Argentina, China and the UK. EW tells us that Season 5 promises to be "the biggest and baddest yet, boasting a brand-new state-of-the-art set, an army of new talented crew members, the most diverse cast in the show's history," with the Boulets taking over at the helm as the show's directors for the first time in seven years.
As always, The Boulets will be joined on the judges panel by legendary figures from the worlds of both horror and drag, with this year's guests including director Mike Flanagan (Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass), David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer, Late Night with the Devil), author Tananarive Due, writer/director Kevin Smith, musician Jazmin Bean, Scream king Matthew Lillard and more. The show will also feature the series’ first recurring judge in the form of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula season 3 winner Landon Cider, and appearances from past season winners and stars including Victoria Elizabeth Black, Dahli, and Koco Caine.
In a statement, Dracmorda shared their excitement about the upcoming series, and the importance of Dragula in the wider drag conversation:
"One of the main differences this season is that the two of us have taken over the responsibility of directing the show [...] As performing drag artists, I think we have a unique advantage of knowing how drag can be presented in its best light through the lens of the camera, and it was exciting to be able to create and provide that opportunity for this new cast of stars. It really gives them an opportunity to shine and an incredible new stage to shine on, and we’re thrilled about the final product."
Swanthula added:
"It was also important for us to get back to what we feel makes the show what it is – showcasing incredible, thought-provoking drag, and showing people how this drag is created and made [...] Perhaps most importantly, we get to showcase drag artists doing insane, shocking, and dangerous performance acts. Dragula is supposed to be a wild ride and I think this new season is exactly that.”
